Postage stamps issued by the world’s many different countries that honor automobiles
Collecting postage stamps is one of the oldest hobbies. It’s fun, informative, engaging, and helps you appreciate all the different countries and how they honor certain people and subjects. One of the most popular subjects is the automobile, as this small sampling of stamps show. We’ll be showing more automotive-theme stamps in the coming days.
Serious stamp collectors want First Day Of Issue offerings. When the United States Postal Service released a series of classic car stamps, this postcard was made sold the day the stamps were released to the public. And for that added touch of historic accuracy, it was stamped Detoit, MI.In 2018, the Republic of Chad, a country in central North Africa, realeased this four-stamp set of Ferraris with a nod to their French roots.Located between China and Russia, the country of Mongolia issued this stamp in 1980, which depicts a Russian-built 1927 NAMI-1 touring car.These four separate stamps were issued in 2015 by the Republic of Benin, a small nation in Western Africa. The cars shown include a 1939 Delahaye, 1936 Mercedes-Benz, 1930 Duesenberg, and a 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental.Several years ago, the East African country of Tanzania issued this block of stamps celebrating the 100th anniversary of the automobiles. All four automobiles are Rolls-Royces, with the red model being a 1936 20/25, the gray is a 1933 Phantom II, the yellow convertible is a 1926 Phantom 1, and the 1907 Silver Ghost appears in the lower right. Each stamp has a different postage price.Australia regularly honors their automotive history by issuing postage stamps featuring antique automobiles. In this block of five stamps, they showcased a 1898 Thomson, 1906 Tarrant, 1919 Australian Six, 1923 Summit, and a 1924 Chic.
